This morning’s front page stories on The Scotsman newspaper are of colourful hospital scrubs made by the Hyndland School Scrub Club in Glasgow to cheer up NHS staff and of how a million of us may be cheering ourselves a little too well as alcohol sales increase during lockdown.
I don’t sew and I’m always amazed by the talents and skills of those who can and do. There are so many people making masks and scrubs and indeed all sorts.
As for the alcohol consumption – how are sales counted? I would never diminish the efforts of those trying to make us aware, but with all pubs, restaurants and bars closed, the off-licences and supermarkets must be shifting industrial quantities to enable this observation. Perhaps they are!

Bought fish and this season’s strawberries. Met several of the neighbours and had a short chat with a writing friend. DH played bridge and has a project re-sorting slide boxes underway. Spoke to my novel editor and a friend. Walked round the block.
Now off to soak sultanas in tea in order to make Delia’s sultana loaf.
